FYI i am on ubuntu 6.10, fglrxinfo gives OpenGL version string: 2.0.6011 (8.28.8). As you can see the "X Window System Version" has same string as the xorg server version itself. How can you compile a binary only distributed driver?

Ati driver worked well for me and with gnome 3 despite off the problem with xvideo. Thanks again. As a workaround I am using nouveau for now, but 3D performance is poor and my favourite game is not running anymore through wine although I installed lib32-nouveau-dri Harvey Linux is also i should note that the performance of glxgears is terrible, something like 250fps, but i assume this is related to it rendering wrong.
